The estate of Hester Diamond, a longtime dealer, collector, and patron, will go on sale with Sotheby’s in January, as announced by Mike D, her son. The art collection accumulated by Diamond, who was an interior designer, and her art dealer husband Harold, is valued at around $30 million, as it includes important contemporary pieces, as well as a number of Old Masters, collected after her husband’s death in 1982.

“My mom and dad were completely integrated into the New York City contemporary art world before I was born,” said Mike D to Bloomberg, “Quite a number of the Rothkos that are sold at Sotheby’s today at some point went through my parents.” He also pointed at the diverse range of items found in the collection, saying: “the juxtaposition of styles of furniture and paintings and sculpture is honestly, very striking. It really is something that’s rare in our world, that we have people like my mom, who are so comfortable in their own point of view.”

“Fearless: The Collection of Hester Diamond,” will take place online and at Sotheby’s New York in January 2021.
